The BYD Atto 3 has been a phenomenal success story for the Chinese manufacturer in Australia, establishing itself as a top-selling electric SUV and a compelling first EV for many drivers. This vehicle’s strength lies in its combination of affordability, innovative features, and impressive technology, all built on BYD’s dedicated e-Platform 3.0.

In a move to further strengthen its market position, BYD has introduced an updated 2025 model year Atto 3 to the Australian market. This update brings subtle yet impactful changes, starting with a streamlined lineup that now includes a new, even more affordable Essential variant, positioned below the familiar Premium model (previously known as the Extended Range).

The new Essential variant makes EV ownership more accessible than ever, with a starting price of just under $40,000 before on-road costs. It’s powered by a 49.9 kWh Blade Battery, offering a WLTP driving range of 345 km. While it features a slightly smaller 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen and a single-tone interior, it retains the core technology that makes the Atto 3 so appealing, including its vehicle-to-load (V2L) bi-directional charging, and a comprehensive suite of safety features.

The Premium variant, which is now the top-of-the-line model, continues to be the most popular choice. It features a larger 60.5 kWh Blade Battery, extending the WLTP range to an impressive 420 km. The Premium model also includes a larger 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, and a more luxurious two-tone interior. Both variants are powered by a 150 kW front-mounted electric motor, delivering a respectable 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.3 seconds.

BYD’s commitment to continuous improvement is evident in the updated styling and the introduction of a more accessible entry point, reinforcing the Atto 3’s status as a value-packed and highly competitive electric SUV in the Australian market.
