The MG IM6 SUV is the taller, more practical sibling to the IM5 sedan, and it’s also a key model in the launch of MG’s new premium electric brand, IM (Intelligence in Motion), in Australia. Designed to directly compete with the popular Tesla Model Y, the IM6 offers a spacious and luxurious interior, advanced technology, and a huge list of features at a very competitive price point.

Just like the IM5, the Australian lineup for the IM6 SUV consists of three variants, all of which are now live on MG’s website configurator. The first deliveries are expected to arrive in late Q3 or early Q4 2025. The IM6 shares many of the same core technologies as its sedan counterpart, including standard four-wheel steering, which makes this large SUV surprisingly agile.

• The entry-level Premium variant is a rear-wheel-drive model with a 75 kWh LFP battery pack and a 400V electrical architecture. Its single motor produces 217 kW of power and 450 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. It has a respectable WLTP driving range of 450 km.
• The mid-spec Platinum variant uses a larger 100 kWh NMC battery and a more powerful 300 kW motor, also in a rear-wheel-drive configuration. This model steps up to an advanced 800V architecture, which enables a phenomenal DC fast-charging speed of up to 396 kW. This translates to a 30-80% charge in just over 15 minutes and a longer WLTP range of 555 km.
• At the top of the range is the all-wheel-drive Performance variant. This model is built for exhilarating speed, combining a 100 kWh NMC battery with a dual-motor setup that delivers a staggering 572 kW of power and 802 Nm of torque. This immense power propels the SUV from 0-100 km/h in a mind-bending 3.4 seconds. Despite the performance focus, it still offers a very usable WLTP range of 505 km.

The IM6’s luxurious interior is a standout feature, with a standard 26.3-inch widescreen display and a separate 10.5-inch touchscreen. It also comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems, including an autonomous parking feature that can self-park the car with a single touch. With its combination of family-friendly practicality, cutting-edge technology, and exhilarating performance, the MG IM6 is a serious new contender in the Australian electric SUV market.
