The 2025 Volvo EX40, previously known as the XC40 Recharge, has been a key player in Volvo’s all-electric lineup, and for the latest model year, it receives a host of significant updates that enhance its appeal. This is more than just a name change; it’s a series of refinements that improve performance, range, and technology.

The Australian EX40 lineup is now more streamlined and offers a choice between a potent single-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup and a high-performance twin-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration.

• The entry-level EX40 Single Motor Extended Range variant is priced from $76,990 before on-road costs. It now comes with a larger 82 kWh battery pack, which is a substantial increase over the previous model’s 69 kWh battery. This larger battery, combined with a more efficient motor, extends the WLTP driving range by 85 km, to an impressive 520 km. This is a big win for buyers who prioritize range and value.
• For those who want more performance, the EX40 Twin Motor Performance variant is the way to go. This all-wheel-drive model is priced from $81,990 before on-road costs and features a dual-motor setup that delivers a combined 300 kW of power and 670 Nm of torque. This allows it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in a swift 4.8 seconds, while still offering a respectable WLTP range of up to 485 km.

Both variants have received a number of interior upgrades, including new interior upholstery choices and a more premium feel. An upgraded sound system and a 360-degree camera are now standard across the range, adding to the list of tech and safety features.

The new EX40 Black Edition is also available, building on the Twin Motor Performance variant. This special edition doesn’t add any performance upgrades but offers a distinctive aesthetic package. It features an Onyx Black paint, gloss black exterior badging, and 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels, along with a unique black suede and Microtech upholstery inside. It’s a style-focused option for buyers who want their EX40 to stand out from the crowd.
