Categories : Electric Vehicles XPeng Brand:

Chinese EV manufacturer XPeng has made a strong entry into the Australian market with its mid-size G6 SUV, a direct competitor to the popular Tesla Model Y. The brand’s vehicles are currently imported and sold through a local distributor, TrueEV, though XPeng has indicated its intention to take a more direct role in Australian operations in the future.

The XPeng G6 is currently offered as a rear-wheel-drive only model, with a choice of two battery packs:

  • The Standard Range model features a 66 kWh (usable) LFP battery, providing a WLTP driving range of 435 km. This variant produces 190 kW of power and 440 Nm of torque, which allows it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.
  • The Long Range variant is equipped with a larger 87.5 kWh (usable) NMC battery, which boosts the WLTP driving range to an impressive 570 km. This model is also more powerful, with 210 kW of power and 440 Nm of torque, allowing for a quicker 0-100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds.

Both variants are built on XPeng’s 800V SEPA 2.0 platform, which allows for ultra-fast DC charging. The G6 supports charging speeds of up to 280 kW, enabling a 10-80% charge in just 20 minutes, which is one of the fastest charging times in the segment.

Looking ahead, a refreshed version of the G6 is expected to arrive in Australia in late 2025 or early 2026. This updated model is anticipated to feature a host of improvements, including an upgraded AI-powered infotainment system, enhanced driver-assistance aids, and a slightly revised exterior design. A quicker all-wheel-drive Performance variant is also expected to join the lineup, which is sure to appeal to performance-focused buyers.
