The Torres EVX, the all-electric version of the rugged Torres SUV, has arrived in Australia. After a rebranding exercise that saw SsangYong Australia transition to KGM SsangYong and then simply to KGM Australia, the new model is now available to order. The Torres EVX is a key part of the brand’s new strategy, offering a compelling blend of distinctive design, practical space, and a competitive electric powertrain.

In a move to distinguish the electric version from its petrol sibling, the Torres EVX features a more modern and futuristic design with a unique front fascia and a smooth, integrated grille. It’s a five-seat mid-size SUV that offers a surprising amount of interior space, including a massive 839 litres of boot space, making it a very practical family car.

The Australian-spec Torres EVX is equipped with a single, front-mounted electric motor that produces 150 kW of power and 339 Nm of torque. It is powered by a 73.4 kWh BYD-sourced LFP (Lithium-Iron Phosphate) battery pack, which is known for its durability and long lifespan. This combination provides a WLTP driving range of up to 462 km, which is a very strong figure for the segment.

While pricing for the Torres EVX has not been officially confirmed, it is expected to be priced around the mid-$50,000 range. This would position it as a serious competitor to popular electric SUVs like the BYD Atto 3 and the Hyundai Kona Electric.

With its blend of a unique design, a long driving range, and a spacious interior, the Torres EVX is a welcome addition to the growing Australian EV market, offering buyers a distinct alternative to the more established players.
