Mahindra has lifted the covers on two new all‑electric coupe‑SUVs aimed squarely at the crowded medium SUV segment. The 2025 BE 6e and XEV 9e arrive with bold show‑car looks, advanced hardware and competitive range claims – a clear signal Mahindra intends to take on the likes of the Tesla Model Y and a growing roster of rivals.

A shared foundation, different characters
Both models sit on Mahindra’s new INGLO architecture, which borrows hardware from the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform. They share a 2,775mm wheelbase and rear‑wheel‑drive layouts, along with a five‑link rear suspension and brake‑by‑wire systems. The two cars diverge in purpose and presentation: the BE 6e is the smaller, sportier proposition with aggressive exterior lines and a dramatic, jetfighter‑inspired cabin, while the larger XEV 9e is designed to prioritise space and practicality.

Dimensions and design

The XEV 9e measures 4,790mm long, 1,905mm wide and 1,690mm tall – around 419mm longer than the BE 6e and just 39mm longer than the Tesla Model Y. The BE 6e, on the other hand, targets rivals such as the MG ZS EV, Kia Niro and BYD Atto 3 with a compact footprint and attention‑grabbing styling.

Interior tech and comfort

Mahindra hasn’t held back on in‑cabin tech. The BE 6e features dual 12.3‑inch screens and an augmented‑reality head‑up display, plus Tron‑style ambient lighting and what the company describes as ‘gaming‑style’ armchairs. The XEV 9e takes a more restrained approach visually but still packs three 12.3‑inch screens that span much of the dash, an illuminated panoramic roof, a 16‑speaker Harman Kardon system and generous luggage capacity – 665 litres in the rear boot plus a 150‑litre frunk.

Connectivity, AI and safety

Both coupé‑SUVs incorporate Mahindra’s Artificial Intelligence Architecture, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip for responsive processing. Standard safety and driver assistance features include seven airbags, Level 2 adaptive cruise control, a 360‑degree camera, blind‑spot detection and remote auto‑parking.

Performance, batteries and charging

Initial single‑motor variants of the BE 6e and XEV 9e will be offered with two power outputs: 170kW or 210kW. Mahindra quotes brisk 0-100km/h times of about 6.7 seconds for the BE 6e and 6.8 seconds for the XEV 9e in their more powerful configurations.

Both cars use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by Volkswagen, with 59kWh and 79kWh options. Mahindra cites WLTP ranges of roughly 550km for the BE 6e and about 533km for the XEV 9e on the larger battery – figures that, if realised in real‑world conditions, would make them strong contenders for long‑distance buyers. DC fast‑charging capability tops out at 175kW, with a 20-80 per cent charge claimed to take under 20 minutes.

Pricing and international rollout

Mahindra’s pricing in India is aggressive: the BE 6e starts from Rs 18.90 lakh (about US$34,500), while the XEV 9e begins at Rs 21.90 lakh (about US$40,000). The company has confirmed plans for a phased international roll‑out of its Electric Origin series, starting with right‑hand‑drive markets, but has not provided a timeline for Australia. “Mahindra plans a phased, calibrated international rollout of the Electric Origin series, starting with right‑hand drive (RHD) markets. We will make announcements of launch at the appropriate time,” the company said.

Conclusion

Mahindra’s BE 6e and XEV 9e are a clear statement of intent from an Indian manufacturer determined to compete on design, technology and range. Their INGLO underpinnings, Volkswagen‑sourced batteries and strong published WLTP figures give them the technical credibility to be taken seriously. If Mahindra replicates its reported Indian pricing in export markets, and delivers on local‑spec safety and servicing, these models could represent formidable value in Australia’s increasingly competitive EV landscape. For now, Australian buyers will have to wait for concrete launch details, but the BE 6e and XEV 9e are worth watching as Mahindra accelerates its global EV ambitions.
