The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been a groundbreaking vehicle for the brand, and the recently refreshed 2025 model year continues to build on that success. As Hyundai’s first EV built on the sophisticated E-GMP platform, it has always been a showcase for what’s possible in an electric vehicle, and the latest updates make it even more compelling.
The Ioniq 5’s E-GMP platform is its secret weapon. It boasts an 800V architecture, a feature typically found in much more expensive EVs. What this means for you is seriously rapid charging. The car can accept DC fast-charging speeds up to 233 kW, allowing you to top up the battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes. It also includes V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) bi-directional charging, which can supply up to 3.6 kW of power, essentially turning your car into a mobile power bank for everything from a laptop to a campsite.
For 2025, Hyundai has made some key changes across the lineup. The most significant update is the introduction of a larger 84 kWh battery pack, which replaces the previous 77.4 kWh unit. This upgrade results in an impressive increase in WLTP driving range, with the Extended Range RWD model now achieving up to 570 km on a single charge. The Standard Range model also gets a battery bump to 63 kWh, providing a healthy 440 km of range.
The lineup is now structured into three core variants: the entry-level Base, the mid-range Dynamiq, and the top-spec Epiq. While the Base is available as a rear-wheel drive only, the Dynamiq and Epiq variants can be configured with either rear-wheel drive or a more powerful all-wheel drive setup.
But if you’re a true performance enthusiast, the real headline-grabber is the Ioniq 5 N. This flagship performance variant is a beast, with an incredible 478 kW of power in “N Grin Boost” mode. It’s packed with unique features designed for track-day fun, including N Pedal, N Drift Optimizer, and N e-shift, which simulates the feel of a traditional eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Inside, the 2025 Ioniq 5 gets a welcome refresh with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now standard across the range. Hyundai has also redesigned the steering wheel and introduced a new infotainment system with over-the-air (OTA) update capability, ensuring your car’s software stays current without a trip to the dealer. With its blend of retro-futuristic design, cutting-edge technology, and now even more range and features, the 2025 Ioniq 5 is a compelling and comprehensive package.
