Kia Niro EV

Categories : Electric Vehicles Kia Brand:

The Kia Niro EV, once a key player in Kia’s electric vehicle strategy in Australia, is now being phased out. Originally known as the Kia e-Niro, this small SUV shared its underpinnings with the previous generation Hyundai Kona Electric. It was a well-regarded EV, but a combination of its higher starting price and the arrival of newer, more competitive models has led to its discontinuation in the Australian market.

Kia has made a strategic decision to focus on its new generation of EVs that are built on dedicated electric vehicle platforms, such as the EV3 and EV5. These newer models offer a superior package with more advanced technology, better efficiency, and, most importantly, more competitive pricing. The Niro EV, despite its strengths, was simply outmatched by these new arrivals.

Kia has officially confirmed that the last production run for the Niro EV for Australia was completed in late 2024. While the vehicle is no longer being produced, a limited number of new Niro EVs may still be available at some Kia dealerships as stocks are cleared. This is a chance for buyers to potentially secure a deal on a well-equipped EV, though it’s worth noting that the newer EV3 and EV5 offer more bang for the buck. The Kia Niro Hybrid, however, continues to be available for now.

The Niro EV’s departure highlights the rapidly evolving nature of the Australian EV market. With new, purpose-built electric vehicles from Kia and other brands offering more for less, the older, retrofitted models are struggling to remain competitive.

Variant Starting Price Driving Range Battery Size

Kia Niro EV GT-Line $72,360 460 km 65 kWh
