The LDV eT60 holds a unique place in the Australian market as the first-ever all-electric ute to be sold here. While it retains the one-tonne payload that’s crucial for many tradies and fleet operators, it’s important to understand the eT60’s design and limitations, which set it apart from its diesel-powered counterparts.

The eT60 is equipped with a large 88.5 kWh battery pack, which provides a WLTP driving range of 330 km. This is primarily suited for urban and metro-based deliveries, as its range and single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration limit its capability for long-distance touring or serious off-road adventures.

Under the bonnet, a single electric motor delivers 130 kW of power and 310 Nm of torque. While this provides a smooth and quiet driving experience, it’s worth noting that the eT60’s performance figures are less than the more powerful diesel T60 Max. The car also has a braked towing capacity of 1,000 kg, which is significantly less than the 3,000 kg capacity of the diesel model.

One of the most significant considerations for potential buyers is the eT60’s safety and technology features. It is based on a more basic trim level of the diesel T60 and, as a result, it lacks several key active safety features that are now standard on many modern utes. These include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keep Assist. While it does come with essential safety equipment like Electronic Stability Control and a reversing camera, the absence of more advanced driver-assistance systems is a notable drawback.

With a current price of around $92,990 plus on-road costs, the eT60 represents a significant investment. However, for businesses that operate within a limited urban area and have access to overnight charging, the eT60 could still be a compelling option. Its zero emissions and potential for lower running costs make it an attractive choice for fleet managers and companies committed to sustainability.
