The Leapmotor C10 has made its debut in the Australian market, bringing a compelling new option to the competitive mid-size electric SUV segment. As a Chinese brand with a significant backing from the global automotive giant Stellantis, the parent company of brands like Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Jeep, Leapmotor enters the market with a strong foundation and ambitious plans.

The C10 is a direct rival to the popular Tesla Model Y, offering a similar size and a highly competitive price point starting from below $50,000 driveaway for the entry-level model. This aggressive pricing strategy is a key part of Leapmotor’s push to make EV ownership more accessible.

The Australian lineup consists of two variants: the Style and the higher-spec Design. Both are rear-wheel-drive models, powered by a single electric motor producing 160 kW and 320 Nm of torque. They are equipped with a 70 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery pack, which provides a respectable WLTP driving range of 420 km. While the C10’s 400V architecture limits its DC fast-charging speed to a maximum of 84 kW, it can still be charged from 30% to 80% in around 30 minutes.

The C10 comes packed with features that are often found on more expensive vehicles. The entry-level Style variant includes a panoramic glass roof, a 14.6-inch central infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. Stepping up to the Design variant adds several premium touches, including larger 20-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and multi-color interior ambient lighting.

With its combination of a spacious interior, a long list of standard features, and a highly attractive price, the Leapmotor C10 is a formidable new player in the Australian EV market and a compelling alternative for those considering a mid-size electric SUV.
