The Lexus RZ has been a pivotal vehicle for the brand, representing its first all-electric model built on a dedicated EV platform. For the Australian market, a refreshed 2025 model year RZ is set to arrive soon, bringing some significant updates and a new performance-focused flagship.

The RZ is built on the e-TNGA platform, which is also shared with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. This platform is a great foundation, providing a low center of gravity and excellent handling. The Australian lineup for the updated RZ now consists of two main variants: the RZ 500e and the high-performance RZ 550e F Sport.

Both variants are powered by a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system, a key feature of the RZ. This setup, known as DIRECT4, intelligently distributes power between the front and rear axles for optimal grip and stability. For the 2025 model year, the power output has been increased. The RZ 500e now produces 280 kW of power, a substantial bump over its predecessor, and can sprint from 0-100 km/h in a swift 4.4 seconds.

The RZ is equipped with a larger, higher-capacity 76.96 kWh battery pack, which replaces the previous 71.4 kWh unit. This change, combined with improved inverter efficiency, boosts the WLTP driving range to an impressive 500 km for the RZ 500e. The RZ supports DC fast-charging up to 150 kW, allowing for a 10-80% charge in approximately 30 minutes.

The flagship RZ 550e F Sport takes performance to another level with 300 kW of power, making it an even more engaging drive. It also introduces a groundbreaking new technology: a steer-by-wire system with an optional yoke-style steering wheel. This system provides an incredibly responsive and direct steering feel, eliminating the need for hand-over-hand turning in tight corners. The F Sport also features unique interior and exterior styling, larger wheels, and a sport-tuned suspension for a more dynamic driving experience.

Inside, both models are a showcase of Lexus luxury and technology, with a minimalist yet elegant “Tazuna” cockpit design. They feature a large 14-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, as well as a comprehensive suite of safety features. With its blend of advanced technology, exhilarating performance, and Lexus’s renowned build quality, the updated 2025 Lexus RZ is a formidable contender in the luxury EV market.
