The Lotus Emeya has arrived in Australia, cementing the brand’s new direction as a producer of high-performance electric vehicles. Known as a “Hyper-GT,” the Emeya is a luxurious four-door grand tourer that directly challenges rivals like the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT. As the second EV in Lotus’s lineup and a key part of the brand’s reinvention under the ownership of Geely (which also owns Volvo and Polestar), the Emeya is a fusion of classic Lotus driving dynamics with cutting-edge electric technology.
Similar to its SUV sibling, the Eletre, the Emeya is built on the bespoke Electric Premium Architecture (EPA). This foundation gives it an advanced 800V electrical system, enabling ultra-rapid DC fast-charging speeds of up to 350 kW. This means the car can add 150 km of range in just five minutes or charge from 10% to 80% in as little as 20 minutes. All variants are equipped with the same large 112 kWh battery pack, providing a generous WLTP driving range.
The Australian lineup for the Emeya consists of three all-wheel-drive variants.
- The entry-level Emeya and the mid-spec Emeya S share a dual-motor powertrain that produces a substantial 450 kW of power and 710 Nm of torque. This is more than enough to propel the car from 0-100 km/h in a swift 4.15 seconds.
- At the top of the range is the breathtaking Emeya R. This flagship model unleashes the full potential of the platform with an immense 675 kW and 985 Nm of torque. With a two-speed transmission on the rear motor, it can rocket from 0-100 km/h in a mind-bending 2.78 seconds, making it one of the fastest four-door cars in the world.
The Emeya is also a showcase of luxury and technology, with a stunning, driver-focused interior. It features a massive 15.1-inch OLED central console screen, a 12.6-inch driver’s display, and a head-up display with augmented reality technology. The car’s cabin is finished with sustainably sourced materials and includes a range of premium features like a standard KEF Reference audio system on the S and R variants. With its head-turning design, blistering performance, and advanced technology, the Lotus Emeya is a truly compelling choice in the Australian luxury EV market.
