The all-electric MINI Cooper has arrived in Australia, and it’s a completely reimagined vehicle that retains the brand’s iconic style and go-kart handling while embracing a modern, electric-only platform. The 2025 models are a significant leap forward from the previous generation, thanks to a new EV platform that was jointly developed with Great Wall Motor (GWM), which also makes the ORA. This new platform allows for larger battery packs and a longer driving range.

The updated MINI Cooper features a fresh, minimalist design both inside and out. The most striking change is the interior, which now centers around a large, circular OLED touchscreen display—a clever nod to the original MINI’s central instrument cluster. This screen controls most of the car’s functions, although a few key physical toggle switches remain for a touch of classic MINI charm. The car’s cabin also uses sustainable materials, with a complete absence of leather and chrome.

The Australian lineup for the electric MINI Cooper consists of two main variants:

• The entry-level Cooper E is equipped with a 41 kWh battery pack, which provides a WLTP driving range of 305 km. It’s powered by a front-mounted electric motor that produces 135 kW of power and 290 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
• The higher-spec Cooper SE features a larger 54 kWh battery pack, boosting the WLTP driving range to 402 km. This variant also gets a more powerful electric motor, delivering 160 kW of power and 330 Nm of torque, which cuts the 0-100 km/h time down to a swift 6.7 seconds.

Both models come with a host of advanced features, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, and a comprehensive suite of safety systems. The Cooper SE, in its various trim levels, adds more premium features like heated seats, a panoramic glass roof, and adaptive cruise control. With its refreshed styling, modern technology, and a focus on both range and performance, the new MINI Cooper is a compelling option for those who want a small, stylish, and fun-to-drive electric vehicle.
