The Subaru Solterra has made a strong entry into the Australian market as the brand’s first-ever all-electric vehicle. As expected from Subaru, it comes with a strong focus on all-wheel-drive capability and is built on the same e-TNGA platform as the Toyota bZ4X, which was a joint development.

For the Australian market, all Solterra models are equipped with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system, which aligns perfectly with Subaru’s brand identity. This permanent all-wheel drive, combined with a generous 212 mm of ground clearance and a special X-Mode for different terrains, gives the Solterra genuine off-road capability, distinguishing it from many of its rivals.

The Australian lineup consists of two variants, both featuring the same 71.4 kWh (usable) battery pack and a WLTP driving range of up to 414 km. The two models are differentiated by their level of features and interior appointments.

  • The entry-level Solterra AWD offers a comprehensive list of standard features, including a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, a full suite of EyeSight safety technology, and heated seats.
  • The top-spec Solterra Touring AWD adds a more premium touch with features like 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof, a premium Harman Kardon sound system, and synthetic leather upholstery.

Looking ahead, an updated version of the Solterra has been revealed overseas for the 2026 model year. This refresh brings a slightly larger battery, more powerful motors, and revised high-voltage components that result in decent range improvements. This updated model is also expected to feature a new, more refined design with a more minimalist front grille and body-coloured wheel arches. While Subaru Australia has not yet officially confirmed when these updates will arrive, it’s expected to be sometime in early 2026. This updated model will further enhance the Solterra’s competitive position against rivals like the Tesla Model Y and the forthcoming Volkswagen ID.4 and Škoda Enyaq.
