Toyota bZ4X

Categories : Electric Vehicles Toyota Brand:

The Toyota bZ4X has made its long-awaited debut in the Australian market, sharing its e-TNGA platform with the Subaru Solterra. However, in contrast to the Solterra’s all-wheel-drive-only approach, Toyota is offering a more diverse lineup with a choice of a front-wheel-drive or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant. This gives the bZ4X a slightly lower starting price point, making it a more accessible option for buyers.

The current Australian models are equipped with a 71.4 kWh (usable) battery pack. The front-wheel-drive variant, while having a slightly longer WLTP range of up to 436 km, has been noted for its efficiency not quite matching up to some of its key rivals.

Looking ahead, Toyota has revealed a significantly updated bZ4X for a global release, and it’s expected to arrive in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2025. This refreshed model promises substantial improvements that address some of the current model’s shortcomings. Key updates include:

  • Larger Battery and Increased Range: The updated bZ4X will come with a larger 74.7 kWh battery pack. This, combined with other efficiencies, is expected to boost the WLTP driving range for the front-wheel-drive model to over 570 km, making it much more competitive.
  • More Powerful Motors: The new bZ4X will feature more powerful electric motors, particularly in the all-wheel-drive variant, which will see a significant increase in output to 252 kW. This will result in a much quicker 0-100 km/h time of just 5.1 seconds.
  • Enhanced Charging: The updated model will also feature improved battery thermal control and pre-conditioning, which will optimize charging performance in colder temperatures.
  • Refreshed Design: The new bZ4X will sport a redesigned exterior that incorporates Toyota’s “Hammerhead” design language, as well as an updated cabin with a new 14.0-inch multimedia screen and other interior tweaks.

With these significant updates, the refreshed Toyota bZ4X is set to become a much stronger competitor in the electric SUV segment, offering a compelling blend of improved range, performance, and features.
