The Volkswagen ID.5 has finally arrived in Australia, alongside its more traditional SUV sibling, the ID.4. This sleek SUV coupé offers a stylish and dynamic alternative for buyers, sharing the same platform and all of the same key updates that have been rolled out to the ID.4. These include more powerful and efficient motors, a longer driving range, and a significantly improved interior with a larger, more user-friendly infotainment system.

Built on the brand’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform, the ID.5 stands out with its sloping roofline and fastback-style silhouette, which gives it a more athletic and aerodynamic look. Despite the coupé styling, it still offers a practical 549 liters of boot space.

The Australian lineup for the ID.5 is initially launching with the high-performance GTX variant, priced from $72,990 plus on-road costs. This model is powered by a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system that produces a combined 250 kW and 679 Nm of torque, which allows it to sprint from 0-100 km/h in a swift 5.4 seconds. It is equipped with a 77 kWh (usable) battery pack, giving it a WLTP driving range of up to 522 km.

For those who want the stylish looks of the ID.5 at a more accessible price point, the rear-wheel-drive Pro variant is set to join the lineup in July 2025. This model will be priced from $62,990 plus on-road costs and features a single rear-mounted electric motor that delivers 210 kW and 545 Nm of torque. With a WLTP driving range of up to 543 km, it offers a great balance of performance and efficiency.

With orders now open and first deliveries expected to commence around mid-2025, the ID.5 is a welcome addition to the Australian electric vehicle market, offering a premium and stylish option for those who want a zero-emissions SUV without compromising on design.
