The Volvo EX30 has made a significant entrance into the Australian market, representing Volvo’s smallest and most accessible electric vehicle to date. It is a key part of the brand’s strategy to electrify its entire lineup and appeal to a new generation of buyers.
The EX30 is built on the advanced Geely Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, which it shares with models like the Smart #1 and Zeekr X. This gives it a solid and modern foundation, but Volvo has given it a distinct design language and a strong focus on sustainability. The EX30’s interior is a testament to this, with a minimalist design and a commitment to using recycled and renewable materials.
The Australian lineup for the EX30 offers a choice of two drivetrains, catering to different driving preferences:
- Single Motor Extended Range: This rear-wheel-drive variant is powered by a single electric motor that produces 200 kW of power and 343 Nm of torque, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 5.3 seconds. It comes with a 69 kWh (64 kWh usable) battery pack, giving it an impressive WLTP driving range of up to 480 km.
- Twin Motor Performance: This is the high-performance hero of the range and the quickest-accelerating Volvo ever produced. It features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup that boosts the power to a massive 315 kW and 543 Nm of torque. This allows for a blistering 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.6 seconds, while still offering a very respectable WLTP range of up to 460 km.
The EX30 comes in two primary trim levels: Plus and Ultra. The Plus offers a strong list of standard features, while the Ultra adds more luxury and technology, such as a panoramic roof, a 360-degree camera, and Park Pilot Assist, which can steer, accelerate, and brake to park itself.
With its combination of sharp pricing, impressive performance, long range, and a strong focus on sustainability and safety, the Volvo EX30 is a formidable new competitor in the Australian compact electric SUV market.
